Well, this was going to be my year for posting all the fabulous BOLD feedback I get every week in my inbox, by mail, phone...and it keeps slipping to the bottom of my to-do list. But not today!
I was reading a letter from Lori Tiessen Banman, a doula who in 2009 brought BIRTH to Winnipeg in Canada and then buoyed by its success and impact decided to take it to the Winnipeg Fringe Festival in July 2010. She shared this:
"We brought out many emotions from the audience and helped many people to realize that they have a voice when they enter the hospital to birth their babies.
I am very proud that we drew in so many people from the public who were not connected to the childbirth network. I am even more excited that the group of nurses who attended a performance initiated a meeting with labor and delivery nurses at their hospital and doulas to bridge an understanding between them. Thrilling!"
It's feedback like this that re-connects me all the time to the grassroots passion and difference every BOLD location is making. Lori's package to BOLD included film footage from the play, a poster, and also a fabulous tote bag they printed for audience members...but what I really loved the most was her handwritten note, filled with what BOLD is all about: real stories, real results that translate into making childbirth mother-friendly. We trickle our consciousness-raising up through theatre, BOLD Red Tents...and it works. This I know!
